This 186 page book relates the history of the Welsh Mountains, located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, during the late 1800s to the 1940s. Have you ever had to go begging to keep your own family from starving? Surely not. Yet in the late 1800s and onward to the 1940s, beggars were plentiful. Life was hard. Did any black people ever steal dozens of your chickens even your horse and claim they were just trying to survive? Such was the life of the Welsh Mountain folks, living in poverty. They had run from slavery south of the Mason-Dixon line, escaping along mountain ridges, guided by the Underground Railroad. Their life was miserable, mostly because they were born with a black skin and denied opportunities the rest of us take for granted. Yet a dark skin will not keep them from entering Heaven’s glory. Also included inside the front and back covers are two black and white photos from the late 1800s.
