In the Biblical sense, separation means “the condition of being set apart to God as His peculiar possession and for His service.”

Biblical separation is not a negative doctrine, based merely on Mennonite teachings and practices. Instead, God commands all believers to “come out from among [unbelievers], and be ye separate,… and touch not the unclean thing.” If we obey, God has promised, “I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters” (2 Corinthians 6:17-18).

Many professing Christians accommodate unbiblical teachings and worldly customs, with little regard for pure doctrine and sound practices. They are like the Israelites on Mount Carmel, who Elijah challenged by asking, “How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him” (1 Kings 18:21).

The choices we make in life either draw us closer to God and separate us from the world, or they draw us closer to the world and separate us from God. On the Day of Judgment, God will eternally separate righteousness from sin, light from darkness, and the godly from the wicked.
