Ralph Fairbanks is promoted to chief of detectives on the Great Northern. At the same time, outlaw Smoky Jack Nettleton escapes from prison. A 40-thousand dollar necklace is stolen from Supervisor Hopkin’s home. Immediately after, a series of freight car wrecks wreak havoc on the Great Northern line. Why are the old-style blue cars in the middle always the target? Ralph himself takes a train into a dangerous stretch known as Devil’s Den.
