Your Greatest Debt Paid
What is your biggest debt? Many people have student loans, a mortgage on their house, or a loan to help pay for their car. Believe it or not, you have a debt far greater than any of these: your sin debt. Because of our sin we all owe God a debt we can never pay. No number of prayers or good deeds can erase the wrong we have done. “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). The good news is that Jesus died for sinners like you and me, rose from the dead, and is able to pay the entire debt of our sin. “Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18).

A New Life Offered
Do you sometimes wish you could start over again? Are you weighed down by stress or a guilty conscience? God wants to give you a brand-new life, no matter who you are or what you’ve done! He invites you to find ultimate rest in Him: “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). While life will still have its difficulties, He wants to share with you His love, His peace, His righteousness, His hope, and His future. All these amazing gifts are a part of the new, abundant, eternal life Jesus offers to you: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Taking the First Step
To have your debt of sin paid and to begin your new life in Jesus, the first step is to stop. Stop thinking you can live your life apart from God. Stop trusting your own works or religious ideas. Stop believing that you are good enough to go to Heaven. Instead, start believing what God has said: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God … Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 3:23; 10:13).

Right now, I urge you to admit that you are a lost sinner in need of God’s salvation. Stop trying to go on without Him. Turn to the Lord Jesus, trusting Him completely as your Lord and Saviour. He will take away your sin debt and give you a brand-new life. Only then can you experience the peace of knowing you have a home in Heaven, and the joy of serving Him each day.
