The White River Raft

The White River Raft
Two young men, Jeff and Matt, undertake a logging expedition in the swamp-lands along the White River in the state of Arkansas. They proposed to build a raft with their harvested logs and float them down the Mississippi River, to New Orleans.
This being the pre-civil war days there is no heavy machinery to do the work. Not only must the logs all be chopped with an axe, but also most, if not all the chopping must be done from a boat. Things get very lively indeed after the cry of timber when all must scamper to get away from the inevitable splash! This must all be done in the late winter and the raft must be ready to flaot with the spring floods.
Can we imagine trying to navigate an acre or more of logs tied together into a raft, down the wide and sometimes wild Mississippi River?
